Successful architecture is about people and places, and not process. We believe that a one-size-fits-all approach cannot be applied to architectural design unless you want what others have already got.

Our designs are individual, tailored to suit your particular requirements and come from collaboration – they belong to us, not me.

Above all, successful architecture has to be constructed, it is why we focus on the Planning Application process first and foremost. We have, over the last 10 years, realised that there is no silver bullet when it comes obtaining planning approval. The process is, understandably, challenging.

Our numerous successes have stemmed from a unique approach that combines hearts-and-minds as much as policy compliance. By creating the right supporting ‘storey’, not only does the architectural solution become more naturally responsive, the quality of local authority engagement also improves.

3D Eco Unique Design Response:

By definition, the requirements and demands of each project are different; as are the demands of the location, the budget, and the site.

Our references suggest that our over-riding aim to work closely with our clients, to deliver what are after all very personal projects, is successful.  The relationship with our clients is pivotal in providing the foundations from which to construct future-proof designs.

  • Each projects demands uniqueness
  • Different parameters
  • Different requirements
  • Different objectives
  • Different budgets
  • …and so, design outcomes

Project Focus

3D Eco integrates sustainability with design such that it balances quality, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness.  We deliver timeless architecture by responding to the individual requirements of the project.

We work closely with our clients, and where appropriate recommend the involvement of allied professionals to assist in the implementation of the design detail. We focus on large domestic alterations, private individual homes, and master planning.

We tailor our approach to each project and focus on their social, economic and environmental needs to create bespoke, healthy environments that will have a long-lasting value and aesthetic.

As Royal Institute of British Architect Client Design Advisers we are constantly improving our knowledge base and adopting best practice.  We are associated with Edge Efficiency and Pure Heat Pumps, dedicated environmental consultancies, so that we are always abreast of current environmental thinking.

Design Principles

  • Design: A fabric-first approach.  Wrapped in an appropriate aesthetic, the key to achieving low carbon / low energy demand is airtightness.

  • Materials: Reduce the impact of construction by sourcing and specifying sustainable materials that respond to setting visually, but also reduce waste.
  • Technology: Work alongside like-minded consultants to provide energy efficient systems that deliver low-energy, healthy and sustainable buildings via the integration of renewable energy sources in our designs.

Introducing John Pickup

During the course of his career John’s clear focus has been on business development, client liaison and design. He has found that experience breeds confidence, not to suggest that one person can do everything, which is all too often the prevailing professional message, but to recognise and admit what bits of the process you are best at and which is better left to others with better skills. People and places matter – working with people to do the right thing in the right place.

John is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects RIBA, a registered RIBA Client Design Adviser, a member of The Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Registered Church Inspector.
